What you'll learn

Requirements
- Basic understanding of the public cloud and public cloud concepts, basic understanding of network concepts such as static routes, subnets, gateways, etc. Basic programming concepts such as data types, variables, loops, functions
- An AWS account. Free tier can be used for a majority of this course.
- A free personal GitHub account.
- A free tier personal Terraform Cloud account.
- An integrated development environment (IDE) recommend Visual Studio Code (free).
- An Azure account.
- Git and Git Bash recommended.
- Basic GitHub knowledge and understanding.

Who is this for?

If you are someone who works in technology and/or is studying technology and want to learn more about IaC, this course is for you.

While this course is an introduction to IaC and Terraform, it is not an intro course in Information Techology or Information Sciences.

This course does not cover the pre-requisites needed to take it.

Create and configure a GitHub account.

Create and configure HCP Terraform account.

Deploy resources to AWS and test their functionality.

Teaching Philosophy

Draw the owl! If you're like me and you grew up in the internet age of funny pictures and memes, you may have heard this saying before; "Draw the rest of the owl!" Now there are some versions of this saying that are less appropriate but the core message behind it is still relevant. In a world full of endless videos, tutorials, how-to guides, podcasts, and automated labs that basically configure themselves for you - I feel that there is an element of "doing" that is missing.

This course will be a bit more rugged and will require you to build some stuff with your own resources. I believe that in the world of technology we often learn best by performing an action such as clicking buttons to configure a setting, writing and modifying real code, and watching real changes happen because of your actions. As a lifelong technology enthusiast, teacher, mentor, and practitioner, this is one of the many guiding principles I use to create my content. I hope you enjoy this course and gain meaningful knowledge from it.
