Finnish global folk pioneers Piirpauke released their iconic debut album in 1975 and are now celebrating their 50th anniversary with founder, Sakari Kukko, leading a hot new quartet through jazz-inflected arrangements of folk-rooted classical music.

The new record is expansive and diverse, focussing on complex instrumentation and abstract poly-rhythms. The album title and track names are inspired by American theoretical physicist, Sean M. Carroll’s book on Quantum Mechanics, Something Deeply Hidden: Quantum Worlds and the Emergence of Spacetime. The album artwork includes a series of abstract expressionist oil on canvas paintings by guitarist, Tim Walters.

Norwegian bassist & composer Mats Eilertsen has done his best to stay active during the pandemic. His previous solo album Solitude Central (Hemli, 2021) was drawn from his captivating improvised performance during the 2020 Norwegian Digital Jazz Festival.
