Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Son Little expands his musical palette on his album, Cityfolk. Montreal-based drummer Valérie Lacombe released her debut album, "State of Garden and Shadow," on April 17, 2026, via Rhea Records. Inspired by the writings of Clarice Lispector, the project serves as a metaphor for personal and artistic cultivation. Featuring a chord-less quartet with Camille Thurman, Caoilainn Power, and Ira Coleman, the album emphasizes fluid interaction and melodic drumming in the vein of Elvin Jones. At the bottom of the garden, amongst a pile of rusty garden tools, she discovered a couple of mysterious bin-bags. She was about to assign them to the skip with everything else, but a sixth sense persuaded her to check the contents. It was a huge pile of rare soul, funk, disco, boogie and- yes – Ghana Highlife records. Katie brought this to the attention of Jerry, who immediately understood the significance of the treasure trove.

Kazumi Watanabe is the indisputable #1 guitarist in Japan, voted Best Guitarist in Swing Journal magazine a mere 31 years in a row! Although jazz is his preferred modus operandi Watanabe has also collaborated with Japanese legends like Ryuichi Sakamoto, Sadao Watanabe and the Yellow Magic Orchestra, bringing huge success at home and international recognition that led to him playing alongside Steps, the Brecker Brothers, Jaco Pastorius and Bill Bruford. This trio album, on which Watanabe plays electric guitar and guitar synthesiser, was originally released in Japan in 2011, but now for the very first time in HighResAudio.

The only surviving version of Carlo Gesualdo’s First Book of Madrigals was printed in Spring 1594 by the typographer Vincenzo Baldini. At the time, the composer was twenty-eight years old and had just left behind the murder of his wife, in 1590. In this first publication Gesualdo probably collected pieces composed earlier than 1591. The music is written by a young author, far away from the better-known experimental composer of later years, yet is clear and faultless, and often very effective.

The "straight horn" referred to in the title of this superb album from 1961 is the soprano saxophone, and Lacy is recognized as one of the greatest to ever play the instrument, ranking alongside John Coltrane and Sidney Bechet. Because of the difficulty involved in mastering it's pitch challenges, very few jazzmen concentrated on it. Lacy is widely considered the first "modern" musician to specialize on the instrument.

La Compagnia del Madrigale releases another imaginative album on Glossa, turning to a late composition by Orazio Vecchi, Le veglie di Siena from 1604.

Nazir Ebo is a boundary-pushing drummer, composer, and bandleader from Philadelphia, PA. A self-taught prodigy from a musical family, Ebo has toured worldwide as part of the Joshua Redman quartet, earning acclaim for his electrifying performances. As a drummer and classically trained bassist, Ebo’s work reflects a profound technical foundation that constantly pushes the boundaries of jazz. Ebo’s debut album ‘Beyond” is a culmination of years of musical exploration and collaboration, centered around an improvisational electric band he brought to life in 2021 with guitarist Simon Martinez and bassist Tone Whitfield and new additions Tim Watson and Sanche Ramirez.

Sunshine is the fourth studio album by The Archies, a fictional bubblegum pop band from Archie Comics. It was released on the Kirshner Records label in 1970. All tracks were produced by Jeff Barry, with the exception of four songs ("Mr. Factory", "Dance", "Comes The Sun" and "One Big Family"), which were written and produced by Neil Brian Goldberg; they were mistakenly credited to Barry, as Goldberg was a staff writer working under Barry's supervision at the time. The album's first single, "Sunshine", peaked at No. 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album's second single, "A Summer Prayer For Peace", was only released overseas and topped the charts in South Africa. The album peaked at No. 137 on the Billboard Top LPs chart.

A classic album released in the 1970s by Isao Suzuki, one of the leading bassists in the Japanese jazz scene, "String Band" is set to be repressed as the fourth release in the "Spin This Now!" series. This album was recorded by Isao Suzuki with an international string band lineup featuring Hank Jones, Roy Haynes, and Ron Carter. Widely supported by jazz fans both in Japan and abroad, it remains highly sought after and continues to command strong popularity on the used market.
