With Vom Willen und Tod (‚Of Will and Death‘), Gellért Szabó’s Ideal Orchestra pushes even further into existential weight and musical scale after Live at Berghain (2025). To record the album, the ensemble from Leipzig secluded themselves in a church, where they captured four compositions by Szabó alongside two newly reworked excerpts from Brahms’ Requiem. A sense of inner struggle runs through the entire record: the drive toward transcendence in the shadow of mortality, and the pull back toward one’s own origins after the death of the father.

British mezzo-soprano and BBC New Generation Artist Helen Charlston and pianist Sholto Kynoch present their take on Robert Schumann’s famous song cycle Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love), based on poems by early 19th century German poet Heinrich Heine. The sixteen songs convey the birth of love, wonder, fragility in the face of love, emotions and nuances, wounds, sorrow, nostalgia, dreams, tears, betrayal, pain, consolation, death… The music expresses all the misfortunes that the poet had to face, as if a mirror image existed between the poet and Schumann.

The Four Last Songs, Op. posth., for soprano and orchestra were composed in 1948 when Strauss was 84. They are – with the exception of the song "Malven" (Mallows), composed later the same year – the final completed works of Richard Strauss.

Geen Paniek is a studio album by German rock musician Udo Lindenberg and his band, Das Panik-Orchester, released in 1978. Notably, this album features songs sung in Dutch. It was produced by Jaap Eggermont and released under the Telefunken label. The record includes collaborations with Dutch artists such as Joost Nuisl, who contributed lyrics, and Jerney Kaagman, who provided guest vocals on several tracks.

With his first recording Himmelsmusik, the Hieronymus Consort explores Sacred Concerts and Songs by the Hamburg councillor musician and organist Johann Schop and his son Albert Schop. Both composers were well-connected during their time; Johann traveled to Copenhagen together with Heinrich Schutz to play at the wedding celebrations of the Danish Crown Prince. Albert received his organ education from Philipp Scheidemann and worked as organist at the Mecklenburg court in Gustrow. The concerts shine through their focus on the text and virtuosity, and the songs, with the texts from Johann Rist’s “Heavenly Songs,” transport the listener to other worlds.
