Joe Bob Goes To the Drive-In

Joe Bob Goes To the Drive-In By Joe Bob Briggs, John Bloom, Stephen King
    1986 | 325 Pages | ISBN: 0385294425 | PDF | 105 MB

I probably first discovered Joe Bob as a movie host on TNT's Monstervision, growing up in the Dallas area my family was well aware of his earlier career as a movie review writer for the Dallas Times Herald (this book is a collection of those reviews). Joe Bob (actually a fictional personality/pseudonym created by writer John Bloom) is a truly gifted writer, in some ways his writing style reminds me of a bit more grounded and comical Hunter S Thompson. His movie reviews veer off the normal subjects and often delve into the Joe Bob character's personal life, his relationships with trashy women and a few glimpses of 80s life in the Dallas area. This book serves not only as great reading material but also as a valuable reference for early 80s b-movie/drive-in cinema. Mostly concentrating on the wave of cheaply produced horror movies that made great home video fodder for much of the 80s, reviews range from b-movie classics such as Basket Case and Evil Dead to lesser known releases like Deathstalker, Escape 2000, Avenging Angel and so on.
