    April 1944.

The Pacific War continues to take an ominous turn for the Japanese Empire as it reels back in disaster on all fronts. Following the fall of the Marshalls, Rabaul, and Singapore, the Japanese are hard-pressed to try and stop the Allies from advancing any further into their defensive perimeter.

Allied commanders Nimit and MacArthur are eying the large, so-called “Gibraltar of the Pacific,” Truk base in the Caroline Islands, the Marianas, and the Palau Island. Things are coming to a head for the Japanese Empire, and there doesn’t seem to be anything the beleaguered and much-diminished Imperial military can do about it.

What is left for Japan is the grit of its soldiers entrenching across the Pacific expanse and the sacrifice of its sailors or pilots as they attack to sacrifice themselves, like at the Battle of Wake Island with the suicide charge of the Yamato battleship of the aircraft Kamikaze attack.

For the first time in the war, the Japanese Home Islands are within range of American bombers, and the U.S. Air Force and construction crew speed up the construction of large airfields on Wake Island to burn Tokyo back to the stone age and finally have revenge for the destruction of Hawaii and the attacks on the U.S. Mainland by Grand Admiral Yamamoto.

Much fighting remains to get the Nipponese leaders to accept defeat, and the Allies steel their resolve as they put to the task of destroying the Japanese Empire once and for all.

This is the story of the war in the Pacific.
