Sd.kfz 251

During WWII, the German army was the first in the world to use half-track armored personnel carriers, specifically the SdKfz 251, popularly referred to as the "Hanomag". Sd Kfz 251 carriers were used to transport sol­diers and heavy armament (mortars, heavy machine guns, guns, flame throwers and rocket launchers). They served as ambulances as well as command and control vehicles. One of the more interesting applications of the carrier was its use as an infa-red night vision equipment vehicle. SdKfz 251 armored personnel carriers were used in 1939-1945 on all fronts of the war. After the end of the war, the Czechoslovak army used a modified version of the Sd Kfz 251, the OT 810 carrier.
