    Composed in 2019 and heard here in its UK premiere, James MacMillan's moving Christmas Oratorio conveys both the mystery and the splendor of the most familiar of sacred stories: the birth of Jesus. A Scottish Gaelic lullaby, English poetry, Latin texts, and biblical passages, all telling of the birth of Jesus, are deftly woven together by MacMillan in his trademark language: expressive and immediate, informed by his Scottish roots and reflecting his deeply held Catholic faith.
