Celebrating the centenary of the birth of composer Gabriel de Paula Machado, pianist Olga Kopylova releases the album ‘Saudade’, in which she honors the legacy of one of the most illustrious names in Paraná music. A release from the Azul Music label, and will be available on all digital platforms starting Friday, June 28, 2024.

About a decade ago, Kopylova first came into contact with Machado's works, when she performed as a soloist at a concert in Ponta Grossa, the composer's hometown. Written between 1945 and 1952, the pieces rescue forms of the classical tradition, such as the barcarola, the Waltz, the Nocturne, the mazurka and The Prelude, which flourished during the romantic and post-Romantic periods, through masters such as Chopin and Scriabin.

Machado, however, gives distinction to classic models, either recreating the conventional structure of the pieces or incorporating innovative elements that expand their formats. An example of this is the free improvisation in his “sad Waltz”, which establishes a dialogue between the past and the present.
