When , in December, the "Erika" ( flag of convenience say ) a " broken " off Penmarc (southern Finistère) , causing a new environmental disaster on the Atlantic coast , a movement of anger tinged despair raised the Britons and the whole of France . A lack of " bug " , we had the " yuck of 2000 " , ironically Breton designer Nono . So come by the hundreds of " four corners of the Hexagon " volunteers were mobilized to clean the beaches and rocks. Relayed by means military and professional set up by the government , for the volunteers still needed three months later drudgery ants ever again , rejecting the sea at every tide the famous " pancakes " heavy fuel.
Birds died by the thousands - some of them , puffins , even endangered . And now the volunteers who cared to learn bare hands , like those who worked tirelessly on the coast, the loading of the "Erika" was a carcinogen ( which scientists try to measure the degree of toxicity, depending on the duration of exposure of those who have handled ) ! …
Enough is enough! There is urgency to this pollution whose frequency is related , of course, the explosion of maritime traffic, multiplied by five thirty. Today, 40% of crude consumed worldwide is transported by tankers often have more than fifteen years of age. Many voices are calling for adequate regulation .
