2007 digitally remastered reissue of the classic album by Steve. The one time member of Gong and System 7, Steve Hillage released 7 studio and one live album in his tenure with Virgin Records from 1975 to 1982. He played an integral part in Gong's rise to prominence and after joining in 1972, he pursed other music interests outside the band. These 8 albums proved him to be as prolific as he was out-there. A string of top 40 albums including the top 10 album "L" cemented Hillage's place at the heart of the acid generation and to this day he is still making music be it as producer, re-mixer or artist. The digitally remastered album boasts a number of bonus tracks from the Hillage's personal tape archives. The booklet liner notes were penned by prog expert Mark Powell and include photos and memorabilia also from the Hillage archives.

Leonard Feather once famously described Hank Mobley as 'the middleweight champion of the tenor saxophone.' Middleweights never get much respect. But before drugs and general dissipation got him, Mobley recorded some albums for Blue Note in the 1960s that make time stand still. Soul Station exemplifies the suave, flowing melodicism and erotic rhythmic subtlety that made Mobley unique. With a rhythm section for the ages behind him, Mobley delivers profundities of soul and swing now gone from planet Earth. This Audio Wave reissue uses JVC's XRCD24 mastering and manufacturing technologies and gets you closest to Blue Note's master tapes.

All sounds you will hear on this CD were generated by Renaud García-Fons on the double bass. Some titles are strict solo bass, some have added loops, pre-recorded electronics and percussive sounds made by finger tapping or slapping. The thematic material oscillates between Orient and Occident, Africa and Latin America and between medieval and modern music. García-Fons lives his dream to present the bass as an instrument with an all-encompassing vocation, an instrument of beauty and many-sided possibilities which should be brought to an audible and visible level. The priory of Marcevol situated high up in the French Pyrenees proved to be the perfect spot for such an endeavour.

It's quite appropriate that Norwegian four-piece girl group Katzenjammer are named after a comic strip popular in the early- to mid-20th century, as their highly eclectic sound feels both slightly cartoonish and unashamedly stuck in a postwar cabaret time warp. Their second album, A Kiss Before You Go, continues where 2008 debut Le Pop left off, blending their impressive multi-instrumental skills with an array of old-school sounds, from the gentle melancholic waltz of "Lady Marlene," to the sinister vaudeville of "Soviet Trumpeter," to the ukulele-led doo wop of "Cherry Pie."…

One of the best-kept secrets of twentieth century Russian music is the work of Polish-born Soviet composer Moisey (Mieczyslaw) Weinberg, often spelled as Vainberg. Weinberg was born in a Warsaw ghetto to a family of itinerant Jewish theatrical performers. He made his debut as pianist at the age of ten, and by age 12 was studying at the Warsaw Conservatory. With the outbreak of war in 1939, Weinberg fled to Minsk, enrolling in the conservatory and studying with Vasily Zolotaryov. In 1943 Weinberg sent the score of his first symphony to Dmitry Shostakovich, who was impressed and arranged for Weinberg to be invited to Moscow under official approval. This was the beginning of their long friendship and of Weinberg's career as a Soviet composer.
Weinberg was the only member of his immediate family to survive the Nazi Holocaust. His father-in-law was executed as ……..

Mily Balakirev learned his craft from local musicians. Conductor Karl Eisrich introduced Balakirev to the music of Chopin, Glinka, and Alexander Ulybyshev, a music loving landowner who maintained a vast library of musical scores. In 1855, Balakirev composed his Piano Fantasia on Themes from Glinka's a Life for the Tsar, and Ulybyshev took Balakirev to St. Petersburg to meet Glinka himself. Glinka appreciated Balakirev's talent, and offered advice and encouragement. Balakirev enjoyed a brilliant debut as a pianist in St. Petersburg, and in 1858 performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in the presence of the Tsar. In April 1858, Balakirev fell ill with "brain fever"; although he recovered, he would suffer from lifelong headaches, nervousness, and depression. With the deaths of both Glinka and Ulybyshev, Balakirev decided to carry on their ideas ………..

Showcasing a stunning new progression in sound for the acclaimed London trio, the LP is preceded by the Stormbird single in March, which has already clocked up over 90,000 YouTube hits in just a few short weeks, as well as early radio support including Huey Morgan, Nemone and Steve Lamacq on BBC 6Music. As evidenced by the single, on Rollerchain , Belleruche have created a darker, more bass heavy and evocative sound, whilst still retaining the melodic soulful touch that sets them apart and has gained them a worldwide fanbase. Stormbird is a sub bass driven pop song with clipped drums, tempo shifts and swells of looped feedback, unlike Belleruche's previous work but drawing from the same cabinet of sonic references.
