WISDOM OF CROWDS, the new project featuring Bruce Soord from THE PINEAPPLE THIEF with Jonas Renkse from KATATONIA, will release its debut album on June 3 via Kscope.The music for the CD was originally written with Renkse's voice in mind, and Soord sought out the acclaimed KATATONIA singer to complete the compositions and release the music to the masses. Despite the rigorous schedules of THE PINEAPPLE THIEF and KATATONIA, the two musicians were eventually able to connect.Both artists are currently enjoying unparalleled success with their main bands.

Formed in the year 2000 in Charleston, WV, Byzantine saw three albums released via Prosthetic Records before calling it a day in 2008. The since reformed quartet continue their power-prog meets groove metal onslaught with latest thrashsterpiece, the self-titled Byzantine.It is immediately evident that the time away has not dampened their ability to create stunningly well-crafted songs. The nine tunes on the album cover all the bases you would expect from these guys - shred-heavy riffage, lush and melodic interludes, an interesting variety of time signatures and a wide range of vocal approaches. The musicianship is phenomenal, as with all of their previous work, and a crisp and lively production makes this record stand out. Highly recommended!

The French avant-garde/metal/jazz trio known as Morglbl are back with their latest collection of instrumental insanity, titled Brutal Romance. If you haven't yet experienced the musical pleasures from Christophe Godin (guitars), Ivan Rougny (bass), and Aurelien Ouzoulias (drums and percussion), you are really missing out on something special. Imagine a wacky cross between Steve Vai, Mike Keneally, Freak KItchen, Steve Morse Band, and Frank Zappa, only more metallic, and you have an idea of the kind of stuff these guys bring to the table.

The mastermind of the Parliament/Funkadelic collective during the 1970s, George Clinton broke up both bands by 1981 and began recording solo albums, occasionally performing live with his former bandmates as the P.Funk All-Stars. Born in Kannapolis, NC, on July 22, 1940, Clinton became interested in doo wop while living in New Jersey during the early '50s. He formed the Parliaments in 1955, based out of a barbershop back room where he straightened hair.

BIS present a chronological exploration of the music of György Ligeti. The exploration begins with a brief piece for solo piano written when he was studying in Budapest and ends with his final compositions, also for solo piano. The disc highlights a number of works which demonstrate the kaleidoscopic qualities of the composer – from the sense of humour displayed in the Six Bagatelles to the otherworldliness of Lux Aeterna (used by Stanley Kubrick in his film 2001 – A Space Odyssey), and the sheer mass of Volumina for organ.

On June 3rd, 1989, the Alice Tully Hall at New York's Lincoln Center was the venue for the world premiere performance of Charles Mingus' masterpiece "Epitaph". Conductor Gunther Schuller directed 30 musicians in what the New York Times described as "One of the most memorable jazz events of the decade".
