Dexter Gordon (Los Angeles, 1923-1990) is considered one of the earliest and most important jazz musicians to adapt the 'bebop' on tenor saxo. His musical career spanned more than 50 years of recorded jazz history. From 1962 Dexter undertook a long tour of Europe, where he performed frequently with other American jazz musicians until 1976 and made some of the best recordings of his career. This album recorded one of his best jazz sessions, if not the best. He performed it in Paris in 1963 with a quartet, accompanied by pianist Bud Powell, drummer Kenny Clarke and French bassist Pierre Michelot. The album was remastered by adding to the original LP 5 songs the last two tracks herein.

Isabel Vargas Lizano (Costa Rica, 1919), aka "Chavela Vargas', was born in Costa Rica, had a difficult childhood and lived for 17 years in Mexico, where he began to reap popularity from the 50s. Her personal career had ups and downs and for more than a decade (80's) was separated from the public. His image offered partially shades that soured popularity. This is one of his recordings dedicated to the eternal world of bolero.

Two days after her two triumphant sold-out Carnegie Hall concerts, Lena Horne took the same show into New York City's Supper Club to be videotaped for a special on the A&E Network.
Her quintet with Donald Harrison, Mike Renzi, and Rodney Jones was augmented by the Count Basie Orchestra for four songs. Ms. Horne was in great spirits and brilliant form, and this show turned out to be her last public perfromance. After one more studio album a year later, Lena Horne made good on her pledge to retire.
