England have been described as ‘the last of the great 70s symphonic prog bands.’ Drenched in Mellotron and influenced by Yes and Genesis, their Garden Shed is one of the best-loved albums to have emerged from the 1970s UK progressive scene. Last Of The Jubblies is a collection of rare non-album recordings by the band, and a treat for their many fans, showcasing their inimitable songwriting and intricate instrumental work.
Eight years on from their last LP, Stereo MC's returned not with a studio work but a mix album that shows their long career in a new light, as not just one-hit wonders but breakbeat renegades who've been searching for the perfect beat – both as recording artists and as label heads – for over 15 years. DJ-Kicks trips back and forth between beat-heavy cinematic music from the '70s, rap from the old-school to the new-skool, and trip-hop from producers who, just like Stereo MC's themselves, take the template of breakbeat music down new paths. Truth to tell, though, there'd been so many similar mix albums released in the previous few years that it wasn't difficult to believe the bottomless well of obscure, funky music was just about tapped. Fortunately, Rob H. and Nick come through with a lineup of widely varied artists and crucial tracks.
…An album certain to interest long time Adiemus fans in its development from previous works and introduce Catrin's solo material to new listeners, further investigation is certainly worth a journey.
Ritual is a Swedish band with a very unique sound, using acoustic instruments like violin, mandolina, bouzouki, etc.. Melodic complex rythms reminds of early Yes but with a personal and innovative touch. An excellent folk-prog production with skilled musicians.
After a series of weekly meetings in the studio over 3 years. London neighbors Michael Sassen aka Michael Dog (Planet Dog, Megadog, Future Loop Foundation) and Steve Rowlands (Full Moon Scientist) came up with their aptly titled debut album, '133 Thursdays'. A mix of chillout, electronic-tinged jazz and classical hip hop, '133 Thursdays' is a quality home listening album that reflects the dynamic juxtaposition of these two underground artists and pays no heed to current musical trends or other artists' sounds. 133 Thursdays is a deep, coherent and diverse body of work; a fusion of psychedelic jazz, mellow house, chilled grooves, prog rock with a touch of classical tying it all together.
Progressive rock's most controversial album. Many claim that YS is the "masterpiece of all masterpieces", while others claim that it is just an average album not worthy of all the hype…
RARE TRAX is a continued series of promotional samplers given away with the german edition of Rolling Stone magazine since the 1990's and has reached volume 80 already. Each version covers a special topic and presents lesser known songs and/or artists.
“there are several reasons to shout about it…there's Shelley himself: a pianist whose quiet musicality and unobtrusive virtuosity shine through everything he touches…Throughout the set, there's a humanity to Shelley's music-making; it's particularly affecting in the B-flat Concerto, which he imbues with warmth as well as wit…this is a major new cycle, an important addition not only to the catalogue but also to Shelley's exceptionally fine discography.”
