The full two-hour performance of Liza Minnelli's 2009 Tony Award-winning concert, Liza's at The Palace, this exciting midnight performance was recorded at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on October 1, 2009. Act One features favorite songs by Ms. Minnelli, including Cabaret, Maybe This Time, What Makes a Man a Man, and My Own Best Friend. A first act highlight is Liza's special rendition of the Palace Medley, originally sung by her mother, Judy Garland, at the Palace Theatre in 1951. Liza adds a new personal musical introduction to the fond remembrance of famous vaudevillians. Act Two is very special tribute to Liza's godmother, Kay Thompson, a groundbreaking singer-dancer, songwriter, and vocal arranger/coach at the MGM studios in the 1940's.

After a period of six years in the wilderness, Norway’s exponent of groove-laden black metal, Khold, is back with a new album, Til Endes, set for release on September 30 via Peaceville Records. Til Endes, undoubtedly the band’s strongest work to date, explores the dark foreboding corners of the metal spectrum with eerie riffs, grim vocals courtesy of mysterious frontman Gard, and catchy hooks which are so often ignored in the genre. Expanding upon Khold’s staple sound of mid-tempo primitive and heavy black metal, the band’s sixth studio release adds an additional aggressive edge to the tracks overall, whilst retaining its use of solely Norwegian lyrics. The album also notably includes a cover of the Sepultura classic, “Troops of Doom,” given the full Khold treatment, and titled “Dommens Arme.

This Magnard re-issue on the French label Hortus originally appeared in 2012 (review). It is now repackaged as volume 1 in the series Les Musiciens et la Grande Guerre (Musicians and the Great War) titled Une Mort Mythique (A Legendary Death). Magnard’s Cello Sonata is the primary attraction with the remainder given over to the composer’s complete output for solo piano which takes around forty-four minutes in total. A Parisian by birth Magnard was born into a wealthy family with a privileged upbringing. A pupil at the Conservatoire de Paris Magnard studied under Jules Massenet and Vincent D’Indy. Magnard became a national hero who was tragically shot and burnt to death defending his house from the invading Germans.
