How The West Was Won was a 7-song 10" EP released by Scottish band Political Asylum on the San Francisco recording label Allied Recordings. Side 1 (songs 1-3) were new songs while Side 2 (songs 4-7) were from a radio appearance where they played acoustically. It includes an acoustic version of Hüsker Dü's "Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely". This is ripped from vinyl.

Very interesting hard rock, it is strange that did not really izvestnym.ervy album, of course, is pretty standard, although very high quality, "hard", but the second is very even and very interesting … There clearly vnezhanrovye elements. Many such tracks as "Strada Del Sol" and "Ride The Wind" catchy soul and want to listen to again and again.

With his last album «After The Devastation», Leaether Strip rapidly recaptured his position amongst the leaders on the electro/industrial music map. Instead of releasing a 'conventional' second single taken off this club-charting album, Claus Larsen has decided to surprise his loyal fans once again by offering them a brand new 9-track EP for the summer of 2006. ~Alfamatrix

Genre: Jazz, Vocal Jazz, Pop, Folk | Label: Baudelaire

At first listen, Halifax, Nova Scotia-based singer/songwriter Jill Barber sounds like merely the latest in a lineage that stretches back at least as far as her fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell. Her debut album For All Time is a familiar blend of folk, country, soft rock, and occasional torchy jazz influences, along with one oddball ringer, the Melanie-style Tin Pan Alley throwback (complete with tootling clarinet!) "When I'm Makin' Love to You." That playful tune is an early indication that Barber isn't interested in being just the next Norah Jones, and closer listens reveal a stronger talent…

Having released his first album Holy Week in 2005, followed by three further studio albums and a 2013 collaboration with Mark Lannegan (Black Pudding) Duke Garwood should be a name that more people are aware of. He admits “When I was young and pretty, I could’ve become a star…Luckily, I didn’t have any inkling to. I didn’t know what I was doing; I wanted to play music the way I wanted it to be played. That probably saved my life”. Whilst that relative haze of obscurity may well be one that he now self-endorses in hindsight that is all set to change.

"The music on this CD confirms the special position of the composer Jørgen Jersild (1913-2004) in Danish music. It is captivating chamber music written over a half-century during which the composer underwent great musical development, but at the same time persisted in his own personal style – from the early works from the 1930s and 1940s to the later string quartet showing us a courageous, mature composer seeking out new musical areas."

Jim Kweskin, leader of the iconic 60 s group, The Jim Kweskin Jug Band, is back with new renditions of old songs. His new CD Jim Kweskin in the 21st Century (Kingswood Records) proves once again the timelessness and relevance of these traditional tunes to the contemporary American music scene. A fixture of the folk revival in the 60s, the Jim Kweskin Jug Band had an influence on popular music that has overshadowed their own notoriety, inspiring both the Lovin Spoonful, the Grateful Dead and the hundreds of home grown jug bands around the world.

No, that price is not a typo. Yes, this is a CD box set of nature sounds, no music included. And, unlike many other "budget" CDs, where you definitely get what you pay for in terms of sound quality, the recordings on these discs are clear and beautiful. If you like nature sounds but don't have a lot of cash, you can pick this box up for the price you would normally pay for ONE disc!
The discs in the box are called "Tropical Rainforest," "Bayou," "Jungle Talk," "Wilderness River," and the sampler. Each features sounds from the particular place described; the sampler includes a short piece from each of the discs plus some others in the "Echoes of Nature" series. It's hard to pick a favorite, but "Bayou," with its bird songs, rumbling alligators, and memorable finale (a frog chorus set against a distant evening thunderstorm) is especially evocative. "Jungle Talk" is great too, but be aware that it is not for relaxing, especially when the howler monkeys start roaring!
    Listen and enjoy!

    EAC Rip | FLAC (tracks & cue & log) | 350 MB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 136 MB | Scans | 42:36
Genre: Thrash Metal | Country: USA | Label: MCA Victor | MVCM-527

Drift opens with a tune called "Me" which is a bit of a choppy hard rocker with a few melodic tremolo mute patterns that collide into the rock configuration of the chorus, but despite the questionable use of 'what I take I take on the chin' as a vocal line, it's peppy enough to have a little fun with. Once "Empty Air" arrives with that electronic intro that bursts into the big bass lines and guitar grooves, though, you can tell that Flotsam were still pretty settled into the idea of becoming a more commercially viable heavy rock band with only traces of their former selves present in the songwriting; that they were still trying to rise to the shifting landscape of the 90s and unearth some fresh new sound that was going to rejuvenate their following. Not bloody likely when half the album consists of rock songs like "Pick a Window" or the almost Western feeling power ballad "Destructive Signs" (which feels a little like Death Angel's "A Room with a View"), but at least they prove that, in a kinder world, they may have had the chops for the passive, mainstream radio rock audience.
