This is Atrox`s debut album. There is a more accesible and sober style to the music, than in they`re later work. Another big difference is that Gersa the male vocalist was still in the band, so we get male growl vocals in adition to Monikas unique style of singing, wich isnt as "far out" as on the next two albums. Mesmerized is by no means a standard goth metal album by the beauty and beast kind. The music is more eclectic and less polished. The album starts out with an intro, before Steeped In Misery As I Am starts. This is the strongest song on the disk. Powerful depressive lyrics about damnation, delivered well by Gersa and with Monika in the background, with catchy and dreamy guitar work. The following songs bears some sort of resembelance to early 3rd and the mortal, but not in the vocal department. Its also heavier than 3rd and the mortal.
Song number 5, a mind`s escape is the most experimental. It Has a trip hop beat with soaring guitar`s and only Monika on vocal. Mostly moaning with wery few words.
At this period in the band had three guitar player wich works well. A good album if your after something athmospheric and dreamy.~metal-archives
