Chris Caffery is the former Savatage current Trans Siberian orchestra guitarist. Although a competent songwriter and a top performer, I suppose most would agree he has been consistently overshadowed by the overwhelming talent of legendary lead guitarist and "Savatage" co founder Chris Oliva. Past the break up of "Savatage", Chris put forward his solo career; having followed his solo steps I felt that none of his previous albums really shined (when compared to "Savatage"), while the direction of "Pins & Needles" was quite an unpleasant surprise.
I always thought that Caffery had equal amounts of talent with the iconic Savatage members and somehow his latest album "House of Insanity" comes to prove that point. Here the guitar riffs are strong and well considered while the choruses kick in the most unexpected ways, definitely surprising the listener. In addition it has to be said that this is by far the most melodic Caffery album while the choruses are by far the biggest that Chris has written.
Through playing the album a good number of times one realizes that "House of Insanity" brings to front a much more relaxed and spontaneous Chris Caffery as the compositions flow naturally (quite an accomplishment for a progressive metal release) while his guitar parts are faster and more fluent than ever before.
Furthermore quite a few of these songs would have sounded great even on a new "Savatage" release as they unashamedly borrow the essence of the "Savatage" heritage.
More than a few great songs on this one: "Seasons Change", "I don't know", "The fleas", "Solitaire", and "I'm sorry". My only (slight) objection is in terms of production as the release would have probably benefited from a thicker sounding rhythm section.
Finally Chris put out an album that does him perfect justice proving that he can be just as good a songwriter and performer as the leading figures of "Savatage".~Amazon
