I have to admit I'd never heard of Don Fardon, and bought this album on the strength of "I'm alive" (used in the fantastic dancing Dodo advert recently), hoping that the rest of the album might be ok.
It turns out the other tracks are brilliant. "I'm alive" is actually overshadowed by some of them. The album is a sort of pick and mix of late sixties styles reminiscent of The Animals, The Walker Brothers, The Spencer Davis Group, and even a touch of Procul Harem. My favourite track is "It's been nice loving you", a big beautifully produced ballad, with a wonderful acoustic. River Boat is another excellent track with a down to earth feel. Fardon's version of "Back in the USSR" is also top quality, and packs a grittier punch than the Beatles' original.
