"Johnny Hallyday is back with his new album L'Attente, his 48th in more than 50 years of career. With producer Yvan Cassar & lyricist Miossec, Johnny offers a nostalgy-tinged album, melancholic, where love & time take an important place. 18 months passed between Johnny's previous album & L'Attente. Did he want to say so many things after the failure of Jamais Seul ? However, the artist doesn't stop here. He's going back. His 48th album is nostalgy-tinged, as we can listen to the title-track. "J'ai tout fait contre. J'ai rien fait pour. J'ai joué la montre. J'ai perdu mon tour" the rocker sings, talking about time. Most of the time, souvenirs are melancholic. To find the right words, Johnny Hallyday invited Miossec, who wrote most of the lyrics. 3 women have also put their words in : Isabelle Bernal, Emmanuelle Cosso & Marie-Laure Douce, who wrote the less personal tracks. Each song tells a love story, between regrets & hope, as we can hear in "Vingt Ans", in which Johnny says that he's met "debts" & "martyrs", explaining that, at 69 years old, life can still be beautiful & love is still here. With powerful guitar riffs & a pop sound, Johnny Hallyday sings a declaration of love in "L'Amour À Mort" & love is still present on "La Femme Aux Cheveux Longs", a song that proves that the singer is a fan of American rock, with the harmonica. He also pays tribute to painter Edward Hopper in the song "Un Tableau De Hopper", which melody reminds us of "Quelque Chose De Tennessee". L'Attente is also a renewal & a redemption. In the song "Refaire L'Histoire", Johnny Hallyday gets higher & asks himself if he can start over : "Je rêve encore le soir en fermant les yeux. Je veux si fort refaire un jour l'histoire". But starting over means that you have to draw a line on the past. That's what Johnny sings in "N'En Vouloir À Personne", a personal one. The ballad "Un Nouveau Jour" comes back on his mistakes, not forgotten, to make his character : "Un nouveau jour pour tout recommencer, pour se faire pardonner les fautes du passé". Artistic director Bertrand Lamblot & producer Yvan Cassar found the right balance between ballads, with a familiar voice & uptempo tracks. They produced a blues album for Johnny, turned towards American rock & modern. Johnny's voice completes it. The next single should be "Devant Toi", it sounds like "L'Attente" : a new bet, putting into question & a naked view. Johnny Hallyday presents a great album, short & homogenic in emotions.
