Given the title, "I'm in Love," one would naturally expect ballads. The best cuts are "Love and Kisses," the title cut and "I Can't Complain" with Freddie Jackson. There was also a remix of the title cut which was called "I'm in Love" (Hot Summer Mix), which picked up the tempo x2 and which was only issued as a promo to Radio. It finds Melba trading rap verses with Kashif and it's effective and cute. Unlike on her earlier releases, "A Lot of Love," "Read My Lips," "Never Say Never, "The Other Side of the Rainbow" or "What A Woman Needs" which featured more variety, this time out, it seems as if she's stuck in slow motion. Capitol, no doubt, was shooting for the repeated success of "A Little Bit More (Part Two)" with this album's first single, "I Can't Complain," and it never happened. It didn't even crack the R&B Top 10; A shame for such a pretty song with such a powerful, loving message and the potential for a third #1 R&B single had it been more aggressively marketed.
