Pavlov's Dog - Echo & Boo (2010) REPOST

I can not even notice a single band that have released just two albums during the 70s to still have such a strong fan base and to be so remarkable. The usual case would be for the band and the albums to have a high slot in the list of "good but forgotten diamonds" but of course that is not the case with Pavlov’s Dog. It is maybe due to the characteristic voice of David Surkamp or due to the fact that their classic single "Julia" was part of our teens soundtrack. Those could be some of the reasons for the band not falling into oblivion.
The fact is that there were plenty of Pavlov's Dog re releases including the classic "Pampered Menial" debut, the second album "At The Sound Of The Bell", the never released on time "Has Anyone Here Seen Sigfried" (recorded back on 1977) and the recorded and released back in 1990 "Lost In America" album. You can also add the solo album by David Surkamp but after the unexpected comeback of the band back in 2004 all their friends were patiently waiting for new material, so that they could remark the band's return for good. So here is a brand new album.
The beautiful, melodic and emotional Progressive Rock of Pavlov's Dog is here as well in this new album. The opening track "Angeline" may not be the new "Julia" but it is for sure the best song of the new album, an interlude to other good musical moments like "Angel's Twilight Jump", "I Don't Do So Good Without You" and "Don't Need Magic".
David Surkamp is focused on real songwriting offering magnificent songs that could be performed even with a single acoustic guitar -the basis to the most of the tunes of the album-. Fortunately the songs are arranged in an inspired way of musical richness under the usage of many instruments like, piano, violin, sax and many others, so this melodic, Progressive Rock style marked by the angelic voice of David Surkamp (which still remain extremely beautiful and characteristic almost 35 years after the debut), is the big trademark of the band in their latest album as well.
The listener will have a wonderful trip listening to Pavlov's Dog latest stuff. I guess that was the main point of the creators that is why they are offering an album mainly based on acoustic instruments in a romantic and a little melancholic mood. On the other hand when the electric instruments are used (like in the guitar solo of "Don't Need Magic") the result is really brilliant and outstanding.
Go and get this album for sure if you really love Pavlov's Dog and the voice of David Surkamp. Go and get this album if you still miss some REAL music, far far away from the mediocre musical standards of our times. Pavlov's Dog new album is a piece of greatness. Enough written.
