Double Fun is Robert Palmer's fourth solo studio album, released in 1978. Self-produced, this pop album is influenced by multiple genres including blue-eyed soul, disco and heavy rock but maintains an overall consistency of production which holds it all together. The album peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart in 1978, his highest rank up to that point, and it includes a top 20 hit, "Every Kinda People."

The hit single from the album "Every Kinda People" was written by former Free bassist Andy Fraser. Fraser recorded his own version of the song which he never released but which Palmer heard. This album and the hit single paved the way for his next album "Secrets" which reached #19 on the Billboard charts gave Palmer his biggest hit yet the Moon Martin penned "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)".

The album cracked the Billboard Top 100 peaking at #45 thanks to the success of the hit single "Every Kinda People" and its two follow up singles continued to keep the album afloat on the charts. The last track "You're Going To Get What's Coming" penned by Palmer later became a hit single (reaching # 73 on the Billboard Charts in 1982) for Bonnie Riatt and was featured on her 1982 album The Glow. "Double Fun" peaked at #10 in the Netherlands and #29 in New Zealand.

Robert Palmer's grin on the cover of Double Fun is reflected throughout this light, feel-good, and funky album, recorded while he was living the life of an Island-loving expatriate with style and money to burn. With its laid-back sway, slap-and-pop bassline, steel drum melody, and lyrics that are really saying something, the big hit "Every Kinda People" is quintessential pre-Power Station Palmer, even if – and considering his success with covers, maybe especially because – he didn't write it. The easy and uplifting "Best of Both Worlds" is a great example of how slick can be an entirely positive thing and the closing rocker, "You're Gonna Get What's Coming," predicts his breakthrough American hit, "Bad Case of Loving You," with same combination of lust and guitar grit, just at a slower tempo. "Love Can Run Faster" – which is "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game" for the sandals set – and "Come Over" ("You tease my monkey/You make my knees feel funky") also deserve special mention. If it wasn't for "Where Can It Go?" (pure, unashamed syrup) and the slinky cover "You Really Got Me" (clever for the first minute, trying afterward), this would rank among the singer's best. Even with its faults, fans of Palmer's more Caribbean-flavored work will find plenty to love here. Reviewed by David Jeffries allmusic.com
