On this re-release we hear the long-gone sounds of Kenyan soul collected from recordings made during the short tenure of the Hodi Boys, a popular ensemble that played concert halls throughout Africa during the mid to late 70s. The music they made was a blend of funk, reggae and classic soul with a touch of African sensibilities. The music is meant to be danced to, and they sure delivered it, going from the early disco-inflected “You Can Do It” (their first major hit, released in 1976) to “We Gotta Dance,” a number that invites fans try the moves of their home sounds.
