Steve Marriott - Astoria Memorial Concert (2001)

On 20th April 2001, a stellar cast of musicians paid tribute to Steve Marriott upon the 10th Anniversary of his tragic death. As much footage as we could find and rescue from this momentous concert at Londons Astoria Theatre is now released in conjunction with the Steve Marriott Estate. Featured performers: Paul Weller, Kenney Jones, Ian McLagan, Noel Gallagher, Humble Pie, Peter Frampton, Jerry Shirley, Greg Ridley, Clem Clempson, Midge Ure, Steve Ellis, Toby & Molly Marriott. A talented musician fraught with a troubled career, Steve Marriott is best remembered as the frontman for the mod band the Small Faces, which also included Ronnie Lane, and future Who drummer Kenny Jones. At odds with his fame and dogged by the constant near-miss of success, Marriott nonetheless played with a passion and innovation that has inspired generations. His early demise when his house caught fire was a tragedy to the music world, and his popularity has, ironically, only grown since his death. This footage documents the concert held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Marriott's death. Participating artists included Marriott's other band Humble Pie, as well as Paul Weller (The Jam, Style Council), Ian McLagan (organist for the Small Faces), Kenney Jones, Noel Gallagher (Oasis), Peter Frampton, Greg Ridley (Humble Pie), Midge Ure (Ultravox), Steve Ellis (Widowmaker), Toby & Molly Marriott, Deborah Bonham, Tony Rivers (Castaways), The Mods, Zak Starkey, and John "Rabbit" Bundrick.
