The meaning of the word 'Disclosure' is uncovering or revealing. Uncovering of what is what I hear you think. In the case of The Gathering you never know what you will get with an announcement of a new album. After 'The West Pole' from 2009, the previous album on which Silje Wergeland made her debut as the new singer of the band, it was a long was to wait for the successor. The band served up a nice treat with the gigs of the first line up doing their debut album 'Always' (in September the last shows!) But they kept on working working on new music at the same time. With 'Meltdown' as the first single surprise struck immediately when the voice of keyboardist Frank Boeijen opens the vocals. And he does that in a Kevin Moore (OSI)-like style and it is a nice addition to the still artful sound of The Gathering.

The album struck me by listening that there is a feel of serenity in the band. They take their time, stretch instrumental parts yet build tension and still know to bring heavy guitars and drums. The electronics of Boeijen get more room than ever and if I should make a comparison from their own back catalogue it will be the album 'How To Measure A Planet' which comes to mind. On this 1998 double album The Gathering incorporated electronics for the first time and introduced the dream sound. And it is Wergeland who leads the dream dance with charm, the Rutten brothers break the spell sometimes with force but also feel that the background must carry nuances. It is not exactly music to run down a mountain to, rather to lie against one, enjoying the sun, music and the good life. Maybe that is what the band wants to uncover or reveal? The good life of today and how well balanced ? I don’t have listening tips, 'Disclosure' is an album that is in good balance and hat comes off for the umpteenth time for this unique band. The wait now is how the songs will brought to life on stage and how they will fit into the set list. One that must be chosen from a very impressive arsenal of songs by now.
