Although the repertoire (ten songs from Walt Disney movies) does not seem too promising, these performances are actually pretty decent. Trumpeter Roy Hargrove and altoist Antonio Hart (who switches to soprano on "Chim Chim Cher-ee"), along with a Japanese rhythm section, turn such songs as "The Bare Necessities," "The Siamese Cat Song," "Under the Sea" and even "Beauty and the Beast" into hard bop-styled jazz; an uptempo version of "Someday My Prince Will Come" is a bit of a surprise while Hargrove's warm statement on "When You Wish Upon a Star" is a highpoint. ~ Scott Yanow
