Violet has garnered favorable comparisons to Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, and Emmylou Harris, but her aesthetic is singular. When the Clock Strikes Midnight is a modern album rooted in tradition; an album that takes the best of both worlds – the classic, left-of-center country music pioneered by Delancey’s idols, as well as the freshness and fierceness of a new songwriter who, after years of studying other people’s stories, is ready to spin some of her own – and rolls them into something new. When the Clock Strikes Midnight features 11 songs, 9 of which are originals and the two country evergreens Guy Clark’s “She Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” and Gram Parsons’ “Luxury Liner.”
On February 19th, Violet Delancey will issue her debut, When the Clock Strikes Midnight, a finely crafted album that evokes the halcyon era of classic 1970s country and Americana. Brimming with honeyed vocals, hotshot musicianship, and a fresh approach to storytelling that calls on her graduate school degree in mythology, Violet’s debut recalls Emmylou Harris with her 1970s Hot Band work. When the Clock Strikes Midnight is an album a lifetime in the making. But it was only while living as an expat in London as a graduate student that Violet discovered her love for Americana and country music.
