Worthy Davis, singer, songwriter and producer from Denver, Colorado, has already attracted attention as the frontman of the TV-total band The Heavytones. Now, his debut CD is a unique mixture of pop, soul, jazz, funky wah guitar grooves, flying blues, fat bass lines, Latin-American polyrhythmy, great ballad sentiment and danceable uptempo beats. Worthy went to school with the very big ones: Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder. And the aftermath is easy with his models. He surprises his listeners by giving expression to all that moves us in the post-9/11 era: life, vulnerability, racism, hope and loss, and the certainty that without music everything would be terrible. Luckily it has figures like him that take us on their musical adventure trips.
