Tom Petersson gets to show his stuff on a Fender acoustic bass on the intro of California Man followed by Neilson's soloing. Soon he is jamming full form, and Carlos has joined in on the drums. Finally Zander comes out screaming going to a party. The band slows down for The Flame, and Zander proves he can still sing a ballad. Elvis would have been proud of the band's cover of Don't Be Cruel. Zander and Petersson both riff on acoustics while Nielsen adds a bit of zip to the song. Two old favorites are brought out to close the show I Want You to Want Me and Surrender. They sounded as good on I want You as I remember from my worn out LP of Cheap Trick Live at Budokan I'd shine up my old brown shoes, I'd get home early from work, if you'd saaaay that you love me.
For Surrender Rick Nielsen brings out his custom made five neck Hamer guitar! Mother told me, yes she told me, I'd meet girls like you! As Zander sang I remembered all the lyrics my favorite line being when I woke up mom and dad were rolling on the couch, rolling numbers rock n roll, got my Kiss records out. The band closed the show with Auf Weidersen and Goodnight Now Nielsen playing on his guitar shaped like Rick Nielsen. Yes, Rick Nielsen is the only guitar player I know who has a guitar shaped like himself, and it is pretty cool looking. The double neck are his legs, the body is shaped like his torso and head, complete with his trademark baseball cap.
