Music performed by the London Festival Band directed by British musician, composer, arranger and director Eric Rogers (1921-1981). Rogers during his career worked in film music. The Decca label paid tribute to the jazz of Louis Armstrong figure (here mentioned by his better known nickname, 'Satchmo'), who had just disappeared in 1971. The meeting topics ranging from jazz to pop during a period from the early 20s to late 60s. The selection was very wise and splendid the Rogers musical arrangements. From 'Mahogany Hall Stomp' to 'What a wonderful world' this production recreates with items like 'Shadrack'-a foray into the spiritual music-, with two beautiful blues (one of them 'St. Louis Blues', great orchestral arrangement by Rogers), with which it comes into more conventional forms of jazz, 'When the saints …', and two of its flagship items, 'Mack the Knife' and 'Hello, Dolly'. Here's an album showing the magic of the music of Armstrong in a splendid interpretation by the London Festival Band under the baton of Eric Rogers.Track list:
