Hot Club of Saratoga - Swingin' With Hot Club of Saratoga (2015)

Hot Club of Saratoga plays high energy gypsy swing in the spirit of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. The driving rhythms under dynamic soloing give the music a life and vibrancy sure to bring a smile and often an irresistible desire to move.

With one exception the tunes on this album were either written by, or recorded by, Django Reinhardt at some time in his musical life. Django is most closely associated with The Quintet of the Hot Club of France and with Stephane Grappelli on violin providing the other solo texture in the music. However, Django and Stephane were separated during WWII, finding Django in Paris and Stephane in England. During this time, Django was most often recorded with a clarinetist in place of Grappelli and his violin. After the war he recorded in various configurations including at different times, clarinet, Grappelli on violin, big bands, and with small combos with drums as he began to explore amplification and more bebop stylings.

The instrumentation of the full quintet of the Hot Club of Saratoga, solo and rhythm guitars (Chad Tallman and Chuck Kish), string bass (Dylan Perrillo), violin (Tucker Callander), and clarinet (Jonathan Greene), allows us to explore this style throughout the range of its roots.

This album reflects the true performance sound of Hot Club of Saratoga as it was recorded live on the stage of Skidmore College's Zankel Auditorium.
