Sublime sounds composed by John Zorn – ostensibly in tribute to the great Walt Whitman, but actually some of the most tuneful, melodic music we've ever heard from Zorn himself! John doesn't play on the record – just composes, arranges, and conducts – and the music spins magically from a quartet that includes John Medeski on piano, Kenny Wollesen on vibes, Trevor Dunn on bass, and Joey Barron on drums – a group with this beautiful sort of cyclical flow, one that never dies throughout the course of the record at all – and which really keeps compelling throughout! The vibes are especially wonderful – placed with a hard sense of chrome, but almost always in a very tuneful way – and titles include "The Body Electric", "Halcyon Days", "Whispers Of Heavenly Death", "Mystic Cyphers", and "America".
