Well now, if your salsa has been tasting weak and requires spicing up, look no further, folks. This sparkling project of hard-driving salsa dura just may be a contender for the best new release of the year. This smoker, featuring New Yorks finest salsa musicians, will have the guests at your next dance party begging for more.
Las Estrellas Cobo, formerly Las Estrellas Caiman (The Caiman All Stars), have resurfaced to serve up a fiery blend of salsa, charanga and descarga-jam dance grooves. The All Stars have a history of special guests participating on their recordings: El Rey, Tito Puente, Papaito, Fajardo – all Latin music royalty, have appeared on their CDs. This new release is no different, with master violinist Alfredo De La Fé joining the group. And on "Charanga En New York," this guy's violin glows white hot.
There are many recordings that claim to have "All Stars." That's all well and good, but listen to this lineup: Manny Oquendo, Andy Gonzalez, "Chocolate" Armenteros, Pupi Legarretta, Juan Pablo Torres, Alfredo Valdés Jr., Orlando Marin, Eddlie Montalvo, Jose Mangual Jr., Manuel Valera and Jimmy Sabater. The real deal.
Featuring Willy Amadeo, Jorge Maldonado and Yousie Barbara on vocals, this one, ladies and gents, is the DJ Pick of The Month.
