With the dawn of the 1980's approaching, Leonard Cohen had already amassed a truly astonishing body of work that had long assured his standing as an artist of true genius. However, whilst his work up until then had been rooted largely in the folk rock tradition, Cohen's subsequent output saw him draw from a wider and more varied palette of influences that included forays into the worlds of jazz, synth-pop and classic rock, and crucially, unlike many of his contemporaries' ill-fated ventures in the 80s, he successfully maintained his gift for exquisite song craft. And while his output across subsequent decades has not been as prolific as during his first 10 years as a musician, performer and songwriter, Cohen has astonished almost everyone at every twist and turn on his long and ongoing career. Leonard Cohen - After The Gold Rush is a documentary film that focuses specifically on the period between 1978 and his dramatic live comeback in 2008. With a mixture of performance footage, rare and classic recordings and exclusive interviews, together with contributions from some of his closet confidantes, plus critical analysis from a host of esteemed experts, this film aims to provide the most comprehensive overview available of this maverick troubadour whilst at the very top of his game.
