Loukianos Kilaidonis is a greek composer, songwritter and singer who was very popular during the 80's. A great perfomer, he remains very special in greek music history, because of a beach party he orginized on the 25th of July 1983, at the Vouliagmeni Beach in Athens, with the participation of 100.000 fans and many famous artists. The event remained unique in the greek music history and many consider it as "The Greek Woodstock". Kilaidonis managed to create a very personal style of a direct and entertaining song that included happy tunes and tender serenades. This CD includes 2 LP that became very popular and the songs were welcomed by all Greece. Enjoy a great artist in two of his best works.
Loukianos Kilaidonis was born in Athens (Kipseli) in 1943 and started his career as a composer at 1970 by writting the music for a theatrical play "Our City" with singers Vicky Mosholiou and Manolis Mitsias. After some years that he worked as a composer of popular songs with great success, he decided to try his chances, in songwritting and singing. “Lyra” presents two discs characteristic of Loukianos Kilaidonis’ work, the "I am a poor and lonely cowboy" (Ime enas ftohos ke monos cowboy), where the composer appears for the first time as lyricist and singer and the "Low flight" (Hamili ptisi), where he has already established his personal style. Through his experience with musicals, Kilaidonis managed to create a characteristic style of a direct and entertaining song and a tender and melancholic serenade. “The poet from Kypseli", as Dionysis Savopoulos calls him, draws his subjects from daily life; he is the smiling observer of our small impasses and contradictions; the unaging juvenile who misses the good old days. Kilaidonis abandons once and forever the format of popular (laiko) songs. From the rhythms of the parties in the ’6Os, he creates a lively and timely hearing experience, a new personal song. He sings about the comic bordering the tragic conditions of life in Athens, about the small oasis in the city, the summer cinemas; he confesses that during moonlit nights in Vouliagmeni, you have a ‘different’ time; he speaks about the party of his dreams and about the night of parting. The truth and directness apparent in Kilaidonis’ songs have been appreciated and loved not only by the young but by people of all ages. Besides Loukianos, in this disc you will hear the magnificent performance of Aphrodite Manou in “One day of one Mary" (Mia mera mias Meris), a song based on Anna Panagiotopoulou’s idea.
