Title in old Dutch spelling translates as “Born to Hear”.
Ciciliani knows how to surprise listeners. His sounds are quite original. An interesting suggestion from a user.
Marko Ciciliani (1970, Zagreb, Croatia) received his musical training as a composer and electronic musician in New York, Hamburg and The Hague. Since 1996 he is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He has written for a variety of settings, including orchestra, ensemble and solo works, often including live-electronics. He also realised sound-installations and multimedia works.
Ciciliani's work typically tries to combine seemingly contradictory materials, in terms of instrumentation, context or allusions to existing styles and genres. This is giving his music a feeling of
experiment, adventure and playfulness, with surprising turns and a variety of color.
It is also characteristic of Ciciliani's compositions that certain aspects of a piece are left open to be worked out by the performers, according to well defined guidelines. The aim is to create a 'multiple authorship' within the clearly defined boundaries of the composition. The resulting work expresses a musical idea that deliberately contains inconsistencies and irregularities. This defies the idea of a "perfect object" that is the norm in modern cultural production. Ciciliani's music is performed world-
wide by renowned musicians and ensembles and is regularly present at music festivals and concert series. As a performer Ciciliani is touring internationally with a solo-repertoire for electronics. Also he regularly appears as an improviser, as which he has performed with distinguished musicians.
Ciciliani has regularly worked with ensemble Integrates since 1998. All the works included on this CD have especially been written for them.
