Die Liebe ist eine vielschichtige, eine komplizierte Sache. Schon seit Urzeiten äußert man sich allenthalben auch künstlerisch dazu. Die dabei in Jahrhunderten entstandenen Elaborate zählen selbstverständlich noch in unseren Tagen zu den dankbarsten Objekten aktueller kompetenter Wiedergabe. Und im Sinne einer möglichst ganzheitlichen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema verraten Hille Perl und Lee Santana in der Beiheft-Biografie auch gleich freimütig das Erfolgsrezept ihrer eigenen Liebesbeziehung zueinander, die ihrer Meinung nach "noch immer lebt und zappelt", weil keiner den anderen durch "Erwartungshaltungen" einengt. Diese Weisheiten sollen aber nicht den Blick für die Schönheiten dieser gelungenen CD trüben. Diese nämlich enthält frühbarocke englische Lieder auf Texte u. a. von John Donne, mit extraordinärer Sensibilität und ebensolcher Stimmschönheit vorgetragen durch Dorothee Mields, die sich immer mehr zu einer Emma Kirkby unserer Tage entwickelt, jedenfalls eine würdige Nachfolgerin dieser Alte-Musik-Königin sein könnte: Mields verfügt über Kirkbys Qualitäten und hat sich zusätzlich einen sinnvollen Querschnitt dessen angeeignet, was im historisch orientierten Barockgesang in den letzten zehn oder 15 Jahren neu entdeckt worden ist. Ihre Stimme ist obertonreich hell und doch niemals körperlos, sehr vibratoarm und doch immer sehr feminin, und ihr Gesang erweist sich stets als ganz textgeneriert. Begleitet wird Dorothee Mields auf Basis all jener "Verzierungstechniken, Improvisationsstile und Variationsmöglichkeiten", die Hille Perl und Lee Santana laut Beihefttext gleichermaßen musikalisch wie auch beziehungstechnisch aufbieten, um die Liebe interessant zu machen. Kreativ akkompagnieren sie bald zu zweit, bald allein, immer voller Leidenschaft nach jener Ausdrucksfülle strebend, die Mields' Gesang mit so selbstverständlicher Leichtigkeit zu bieten vermag. Ein Genuss sind außerdem die eingestreuten Solostücke der Instrumentalisten, in denen sie sich noch mehr als Meister des Emotionalen präsentieren, stets getragen freilich von unbestechlich vollkommener Fingertechnik.
