Orfeón Donostiarra is undoubtedly the most important choral group in Spain and one of the most renowned in the world. It has published more than 130 albums and is made entirely by over 170 voices. The choir has tried to keep during its history the amateur status that conferred its founders. This CD brings together 15 tracks, all of 'habaneras', a vocal style that has been exported to the world through the International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja, in Alicante (Spain). All the songs are creations of Spanish authors with a careful selection and a varied instrumental accompaniment (piano, accordion, guitar, bass, …) with specific arrangements for this recording.Track list:
The repertoire consists of five classic 'habaneras' -items 2, 3, 6, 7 and 11, among which the popular 'La bella Lola,' also titled album-, two more from 'zarzuelas' -9 and 10 -, three works by Basque authors or living in that region of Spain -1, 11 and 12- and finally five recently created works -tracks 4, 5, 8, 14 and 15 -. In short, a carefully selected and beautiful musical production performed by this superb choral Spanish chorus.
