Boogada3 is the second studio recording by the famous Chicago punk rock band Screeching Weasel. This is the most successful album of the band, maybe because it came out in a time where there were hardly such Punk-albums as this or maybe because of its good spirit and the attitude. It's sort of a classic and is still sort of fun today, especially the highlights. Also, this album is the link between the silly backwoods Hardcore of the first record to the perfected Ramones influenced Pop-Punk of their next releases. Add the informative liner notes by Jim Testa (Jersey Beat Fanzine), Ben Weasel and Jughead, (partly also track-by-track), the lyrics, flyer-pictures, unreleased photos and the artwork how it was supposed to be released originally. A treasure chest for "nerds" and collectors.

Asian Man Records will be re-releasing 6 of the early Screeching Weasel albums and this one (their second ever) is the first in line, and is considered to be the most important contribution of this Chicago band to punkmusic for many. It was first released in 1988 through Roadkill, a small self-founded label that eventually sold about 5,000 copies of the album, but was later picked up by Lookout! Records in 1992 who made it their best selling record to date.

I'm not sure how the original recordings sounded, but even this version, remastered by Mass Giorgini has a bit of that classic cheap recordingquality, and sounds just… great! Compared to all the later releases I own, the songs here sound a lot more agressive and fuzzy.

Should you be new to Screeching Weasel, here's a simple description of their sound for you: classic Ramones' short snotty songs but a bit more energetic, upbeat, catchy and speedy, and above all a good dosage of humor. I just call this no-nonsense genuine poppunk rock. There's even a few true hardcore rants, especially in the second part of the album. And although Screeching Weasel never will be labeled as the most technical band on this planet even after their 2 decades of existence, the three chord songs on this release still show quite some signs of a starting punkband. But let me tell you that all of this doesn't matter, since I consider this to be a phenomenal album and it indeed tops any other of their later releases because this is just sheer fun with balls and humour. The emotional involvement that should come with classic re-releases like this one, is helped a hand with the personal comments in the lyricsheet to a lot of these songs by the 2 founding members, giving you an idea of the low-profile start of this band.
