"CONCERTO Dithyrambe" consciously does without the classic concerto-form. Instead of a dialogue between the string quartet and the orchestra, possibly even over the same theme, what we have here is a positively manic monologue. It is held by "a creature with four mouths-yes, with four heads and four mouths, a beast!"
Sotto Voce / Sotto Voce 2: "I wanted to write a sister-work for the one that already existed," says Rihm. "Or a brother-work? Sotto voce is a slow, relatively quiet piece. Sotto voce 2 is something like an answer to it - another answer, so to speak, a fast movement, a motionfilled piece that whispers. It has to do with motion sequences and with velocity."
