The use of Creo illustrations is a rapidly growing opportunity for manufacturers to deliver more effective technical information. There are many new and exciting enhancements in 2.0 to make Creo Illustrate more powerful and robust in 3D technical illustrations.

There are a number of enhancements to improve your experience when working with the sBOM structure. In Creo Illustrate 1.0 you were able to drag and drop eBOM parts (or sub-assemblies) on to the sBOM tree and restructure the sBOM manually. You can still do this in 2.0, but we have also added the ability to auto-configure the sBOM with an XML file.

If you are managing your sBOM in a separate database then Creo Illustrate can import an XML file of your sBOM and this will automatically structure the illustration sBOM to match, along with the CAD parts. This will save time and prevent errors in structuring the illustration BOM, allowing you to move quickly on to the fun part of technical illustration.

The XML BOM file can also be extended to auto-generate multiple figures in your 3D illustration to further streamline your process. If your technical illustrations must all be authored with a standard set of figures for different purposes (exploded view, assembled view, print view, etc.) then this extension to the XML file can pre-configure a set of figures for your illustrators to work on.

One of the other aspects to BOM restructuring is the combining (or ‘welding’) of engineering parts to form single serviceable items. ‘Combine’ has been enhanced to make it even more flexible. Combine in 2.0 now works at the part level, not the assembly level. Simply select which parts need to be combined within a sub-assembly and apply the ‘combine’ to them. In this way you can now have sub-assemblies that have a mixture of combined and individual parts, without needing to combine the whole sub-assembly.

Finally we have extended the ‘Find’ tool to work in both the sBOM and eBOM trees, enabling you to find parts or assemblies quickly in either tree. As usual, more details are provided for all of our enhancements in the product documentation.
