A police officer of short stature assigned to patrol the Arizona desert by motorcycle, John Wintergreen (Robert Blake) hopes to break out of his rookie status and join the homicide department. When Wintergreen catches a break and gets an opportunity to work on a murder case, he jumps at the chance. Meanwhile, the lawman becomes disillusioned with many of his peers and the way that they harass hippies, and this ongoing conflict has a major effect on Wintergreen's life.

Commentary with Director James William Guercio. This is a really interesting, albeit pretty low key and eventually somewhat sporadic, commentary by Guercio. He mentions several times how hard it is to keep talking about various shots since they were working on such a shoestring budget and regularly had absolutely no coverage in various sequences, relying on one unedited shot. There's some nice memories here about Robert Blake in what was probably a happier time in his life, as well as famed cinematographer Conrad Hall.
