Synthesizer-playing composer Didier Marouani is the founding member of the French synth-pop band Space. He was classically trained as a pianist at the Paris Conservatoire, but recorded his first album as a singer in 1975. Space was formed by Marouani in 1977, after he decided to focus more on composition. The group's biggest international success came later that year with the singles "Magic Fly," which hit the U.K.'s Top Ten and, to a lesser extent, "Carry on Turn Me On," both of which appeared on charts in a number of countries. Space toured and recorded for the next few years and continued to make well-received records, although no singles duplicated the success of "Magic Fly." After several albums, a rift occurred in the band; 1980's Deeper Zone, recorded under the name of Space, was actually an album by band members Roland Romanelli and Jannick Top, who took over and kept the band name, but went relatively unnoticed…

In the 1970's just before and after the advent of "Star Wars" there was a futuristic space boogie disco sound that was championed by a few outfits like Magic Fly and Mandre that resonated with the club sonics of that period. Kim And Buran have regressed quite successfully in 2016 making that formular sound hip today. Strap on your seat belts for the albums take off with "Delayed Flight" taking you on an East To West "Voyager", which incidentally is the title of track number four. Exploring jazz, soul, disco and electronic dimensions the awesome foursome have got it spot on with this predominantly instrumental album. Out of the 15 stand out cuts are "Breeze", "Jet Disco", "Space Taxi", 80's electro boogie "Modern Music" with vocoder at the ready.

Dynamic St Petersburg producer Kim and Buran are slowly growing into electronic disco veterans, with this, their second long player on Nang and having been on the scene for over 18 years. Latest offering 'Tramplin' pays little heed to rigid four-four / dancefloor structures; the album works as a substantial, fifteen track work because of the variety of mood, tone and texture that runs throughout. From the mid tempo, atmosphere-drenched cosmotica of opener 'Walk on the Stratosphere', and the drifting, Delia Derbyshire like synths strains and retro melancholia of Forbidden Planet, to the irresistible moog driven funk of Around Pauls, the tight Italo strut of Gala, the shimmering, exultant future disco of the likes of French Train, shifts gears and switches mood throughout. Set closer, the breezy musicality of 'Your our Summer Dress' ends the album with effortless panache.

Despite being renowned in certain parts of the world (especially in Italy and their hometown of Paris), the space-age outfit Rockets remains largely obscure – even though they arrived on the scene at almost he same exact time as Kraftwerk and prefaced Devo by several years. The multi-membered outfit originally formed in 1972, under the name Crystal, performing on-stage in their regular street clothes. But by 1974, Crystal had evolved into Rocket Men, issuing a debut self-titled single, while its members began to assume the identities of aliens; complete with silver makeup covering their skin, grey contact lenses, space suits, and bald heads. It was also around this time that the group hooked up with producer Claude Lemoine, who would remain behind the studio boards until the early '80s. Over the next year, the group went through another name (Rocketters), before finally settling on Rockets, and issuing further singles, including such titles as "Rocket Man," "Future Woman," and "Samurai."

The synthesized love child of fellow French musicians Cerrone and Jean-Michel Jarre, Space made their mark in 1977 with "Magic Fly" not long after Jarre blasted to worldwide acclaim with his own "Oxygene." With their classic combination of lush instrumentation and electro-tweak, Space looked set to dominate the Euro-disco wave. Two years on, however, the band was still trying to recapture that glory with the release of Just Blue, and occasionally coming very close. Star-crossed with moments that touch on the sounds of both Giorgio Moroder and Meco, Space managed to churn out some eminently enjoyable if not brilliant electro-pop.

The French synth-pop band Space had international hits with their 1977 dance numbers "Carry on Turn Me On" and "Magic Fly," leading to a deal with Casablanca Records and gold records for the band's songwriter and leader Didier Marouani. The dance group was formed by keyboardist Marouani in 1977. The group's biggest international success came later that year with the previously mentioned singles, both appearing on charts in a number of countries. Space toured and recorded for the next few years and continued to make well-received records, although no singles duplicated the success of "Magic Fly."

One of the most ambitious Euro-disco acts of the late 1970s was Space, which shouldn't be confused with the alternative rock band that recorded Spiders in 1996. By the time that Space was formed in the 1990s, the Euro-disco act heard on Deliverance had long since called it quits. Recorded in London and Paris in 1978, this conceptual, mostly instrumental LP employs a lot of futuristic sci-fi imagery and is quite high-tech for its time. Synthesizer-dominated instrumentals like "Air Force" and "Running in the City" give the impression that Jean-Philippe Iliesco, the album's producer, had been paying close attention to German innovators like Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder-and yet, Deliverance has a high-tech energy of its own.

Roland Romanelli is a French synthesist and composer, mainly known as arranger. During his career, he worked with Barbara, Rusty Egan, and other notable figures in popular music. He was an early adopter of the Fairlight system. Romanelli moved to Paris in 1966. He was a session player on accordion and keyboards for Barbara Brodi. He soon worked for other musicians including Charles Aznavour. In the late 1970s, he worked in the French space disco scene, and was a founding member of the popular band Space. He took up synthesizers, which helped his career grow in the 1980s. His 1982 album Connecting Flight was also released in the US on PolyGram Records.
