Director Stanley Long apparently shot this film in 1973 inside the space of two weeks with a budget of £20,000. Not even Gerald Thomas & Peter Rogers could crank out a "Carry On" film within that kind of budget and timescale.

The "Don Quixote" story has be-deviled great filmmakers like Orson Welles and Terry Gilliam, so perhaps the makers of this deserve credit for simply finishing this movie and avoiding the fabled "Don Quixote curse". Of course, this is not exactly a faithful re-telling of the great 17th century Spanish novel. But this is also not just some cheap porno parody either.

In this version the baddies conspire to use Maid Marian against Robin, and this makes for some useful dramatics. She is also cast against type, with Marian having huge breasts and dark hair. Film’s highlight is a lengthy torture scene, rather imaginatively staged by director Richard Kanter in an attempt to outdo the softcore king of s&m Lee Frost, as Sallyforth does all sorts of nasty things to a suspended-in-air Marian.

Samurai Cop is sure to please all fans of B-cinema. There are many scenes in this gem that will have you doubled over with laughter. From the initial car chase, to the slow motion katana duel between Matt Hannon and Robert Z'Dar, this movie screams cheese. Its aborted plot revolves around the titular character, Joe Marshall, the "samurai" cop (played by Matt Hannon), who has been transferred from San Diego to Los Angeles in order to assist the LAPD in taking down the troublesome Katana gang. Marshall, so we are told, has trained with the masters in Japan, and so ostensibly has some greater insight into the inner-culture of the Katana.
