Mr. Raney's second novel in the Jim Morgan series is a wonderful, whimsically narrated tale that will appeal to the young at heart. For those who have not read Jim Morgan and the King of Thieves, Mr. Raney has a unique narrative voice and a talent for creating engaging characters. The brothers Ratt, Lacey, and Jim himself have colorful, memorable personalities. Even the supporting cast have surprising depth. I find Jim's adventures to be far more engaging than the acclaimed Percy Jackson series.
This novel is well paced and has an imaginative plot. It would be a disservice to reveal any details, but if talking animals, magic, and the romance of sailing hold any interest for you, take a chance on this novel. You will enjoy it!
