    F.C.Bartlett: Political Propaganda (1942)
    University Pres | ISBN: ? | ASIN: B0006AP5R2 | 1942 | | 2nd edition | PDF (OCR) | 158 pages | 35 Mb

The basic aim of the book is a critique of the assumptions of totalitarian propaganda and the concomitant construction of principles which commit neither the fallacy of despising human intelligence–as do the totalitarians–nor of defying it–as do the heads-in-the-clouds idealists. To that end, Professor Bartlett inspects the evidence in favor of the view that man in the mass betrays a primitive, childlike intelligence, a sport of unconscious urges to be played upon by an elite versed in the secrets of human manipulation. The book, because of its limitations of space, is guilty of a superficial discussion of the history of propaganda and the limitations of various propaganda media. To the reviewer it seems that this section might have been left out in favor of further discussion of propaganda strategy. Another fault is the lack, obvious by its absence, of consideration of the relation of propaganda to the context of events on which it takes place. The most fitting comment the reviewer can make, however, is that Professor Bartlett has crammed into the pages of his slim volume an imposing array of provocative insights, shrewd conclusions, and arresting hypotheses–many of which have stood the test of recent history.

This book is first and foremost aimed at foreign international tax practitioners with corporations as their clients, If you are an adviser to individuals this book will have useful information on how your client's companies in the Netherlands will generally be treated, but it will not tell you how foreign individuals are taxed in the Netherlands and what estate planning techniques could be used.
This book aims to go further than many loose-leaf editions which give a global overview of corporate taxation in the Netherlands: it makes little sense to write something again that is out there already. First. I have tried to cover what I believe is the relevant material that a foreign international tax practitioner comes across as opposed to a national professional. In my mind international professionals are not that interested in knowing about the tax issues that typically play at an operating company level: investment incentives and divestment clawbacks, or labour cost incentives. Instead, they want to know about cross-border flows of funds and services, acquisitions, disposals, mergers, the prevention of double taxation and to some extent tax consolidation (but again, not the nitty gritty at opco level).

The Nazis saw film as a major vehicle for both indoctrination and escapist pacification of the masses; in fact, Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels tried to create a German counter-Hollywood. This highly acclaimed study, by one of Germanys leading commentators and authors on cultural policy, analyses the pictorial and spoken language of the various film genres in the Third Reich, including news reels, documentaries, feature and cultural films. It shows how a powerful and sinister propaganda machine emerged which, by deploying a wide range of psychological techniques, exerted a strong fascination on the masses. These methods were so successful that they continue to serve as models for totalitarian rgimes to this day.
