For all you photographers out there who may have questions about the fundamentals of studio lighting, world-class instructor Scott Kelby is here to break down the basics. Scott teaches this course using his personal, conversational style of instruction. He goes through a variety of setups and equipment and teaches the whole course from inside a studio, so viewers can watch while Scott demonstrates how to use the equipment he is talking about. He goes over strobes and spider lights, soft boxes, flags, reflectors, beauty dishes and much, much more. Scott's goal in this course is to teach his viewers about the tools they need to have in the studio, when to use them, and more importantly, how to use them.
Using just a few video elements of torch flames, we composite a burning hand by using a series of null objects and expressions to drive a time lagged displacement effect to simulate fire burning from a moving source. We use the Puppet tool for the distortion and throw on some tracked lighting effects and a displacement map for the Heat. This principle can be used to add realistic, fluid motion to any tracked object.
Winter is not the most popular season for taking landscape photographs, but Bill Fortney shows us that there is still plenty to capture at his favorite spots in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. While grand landscape photography captures the beauty of a large scene, intimate landscape photography focuses on small, unique parts of that landscape and extracts from the overall scene. During this course, Bill recommends equipment for getting started with landscape photography. He talks about image composition, the importance of texture, and how he uses lines of direction when composing his photos. In later lessons, Bill takes viewers into his digital darkroom to talk about his favorite processing techniques and software. Follow along as Bill teaches photographers how to find, compose, and create wonderful, intimate landscape photographs.
Jeremy Cowart has been working as an entertainment photographer for 6 years shooting celebrity portraits, album covers, and concert photography. In the first part of this on location series, he has invited Scott Kelby and his video crew to follow Jeremy around Venice Beach, California as he scouts and chooses locations, lights the scenes, works with his model, and figures out how to get the creative shots he is looking for. All of this is unfolding live in front of the cameras as Jeremy and his crew find random locations and shoot with portable equipment. Scott takes the opportunity to ask questions submitted by viewers and they discuss how Jeremy goes about picking locations, works with clients, and what type of lighting equipment he likes to use.
