The author of this book has the advantage of a thorough knowledge of the bookbinding trade and at the same time has taught the craft for many years. He presents his subject from a simple and practical angle that gives due regard to the educational value of the processes described. After chapters on general matters such as ‘equipment’ and ‘choice of materials’, the worker is provided with a series of exercises in binding, progressing in difficulty, and each logically based on the knowledge previously gained. The scope of the work ranges from loose leaf albums to a book bound in full leather, lettered in gold on the spine and with tooled design on the front.
This second edition has been completely revised and a number of additions have been made which include an alternative method of marbling, several new full page photographs illustrating tooled designs, and a short history of bookbinding illustrated with photographs of traditional examples.
