THE Albatros fighters hold an important place in the history of the first air war and were produced in large numbers, indeed over 60% of all Front-line German fighter aeroplanes at the time of the March 1918 Spring Offensive were Albatros types. Both DV and DVa fighters remained in Jasta service right up to the Armistice and appeared in a bewildering variety of camouflage and markings making them perhaps the most colourful of all WW1 fighters. This booklet is a natural companion volume to WINDSOCK DATAFILE No. 1, ALBATROS Dill and contains many photographs published collectively for the first time, thanks to the generosity of enthusiasts in the UK and USA as well as both East and West Germany. Ian Stair has fully re-draughted his original drawing which first appeared in the Wingspan Publications book, Albatros Fighters of World War One while the author has contributed four original colour profiles to make WINDSOCK DATAFILE No. 3 a useful addition to the growing library of Albatros reference material published in recent years.
